Happy Birthday, Syesha Mercado!

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 12:18 AM PST

Season 7′s top girl, Syesha Mercado, turned 24 yesterday. Syesha spent her birthday relaxing. She tweeted, “In the Bahamas for my b-day! Yippee! Best b-day gift ever. Thanks.”

Since November 2009, Syesha starred as Deena Jones in the national touring production of Dreamgirls, which wrapped just over a week ago in Detroit, Michigan. After devoting the last year of her life to the show, the Florida native tweeted, “Oh today was the last Dreamgirls show! Magical night! Goodbye Dreamgirls hello Dreams!” What do those dreams include? Syesha has mentioned that she plans on releasing an album, and she’d love to tour and appear in movies and television shows.

Starring in a renowned Broadway musical is fitting for Syesha. During Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway night of Season 7, the judges felt that Syesha was really in her element when performing. Syesha’s other American Idol hits include The Beatles’ “Yesterday” and Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.”

See who will follow in Syesha’s footsteps when American Idol returns for Season 10 on January 19th at 8/7c only on FOX!

Happy Birthday, Syesha!
