Happy Birthday, David Archuleta!

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 04:16 PM PST

Season 7′s runner-up, David Archuleta, turns 20 years old today! We’ve watched David grow from a 16-year-old Season 7 Hollywood hopeful to an international star.

This year has been a huge one for the Murray, Utah native. In June, David released his first book, Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song, and The Power of Perseverance. David put out his new album, The Other Side of Down, in October. David co-wrote an impressive 9 of the 12 songs on the album.

Six months after David’s run on American Idol, he released his self-titled debut album, which peaked at No. 2 on three different Billboard charts and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The album included his hit single “Crush” and his second single “A Little Too Not Over You” which David co-wrote. Last October, David released a holiday CD entitled Christmas from the Heart. The album includes 12 Christmas songs covered by David and one original song, “Melodies of Christmas,” that he co-wrote.

David won’t have much time to celebrate his 20th birthday; he’s rehearsing for tomorrow’s show at the Grove of Anaheim. After that performance, he’ll head to Las Vegas to get ready for FOX’s NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE, airing this Friday and featuring a live performance from David as he sings some of his up-beat songs from The Other Side of Down.

Catching Up with Scott MacIntyre

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 04:16 PM PST

Season 8′s inspirational finalist, Scott MacIntyre, had a great year. His original song, “Christmas Angel,” jumped 31 points on the AC Indie charts last week, so we hopped on the phone with the Arizona resident to catch up on life in 2010 and what he has planned for 2011.

When Scott found out about his single’s success, he said, “It was so exciting to hear that people were really enjoying the song. I had the opportunity to perform ‘Christmas Angel’ with Alice Cooper at his Christmas Pudding show last year. I promoted my Christmas album by touring and performing shows, so I never had the time to promote it for the radio stations. It’s so nice to hear that it’s doing well on the radio stations this year. The Christmas song has a unique spin on it.”

Over the past year, Scott has been doing a whole lot of traveling. “I toured in Japan, and sold out a show in Tokyo, where the audience was so hospitable. In addition to performing at lots of concerts and corporate functions, I’ve become very involved with public speaking because of my story. A lot of people have been able to connect with me because of my accomplishments despite the obstacles I’ve faced. Actually, some breaking information is that I was signed as an exclusive with Premiere Speakers Bureau. They represent the top news anchors and Olympians, and I’m the first Idol to be signed with them. The announcement will officially be made in January, but I already have a few things set on my … read more
