Exclusive Interview with Anthony Fedorov

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 04:49 PM PST

Season 4′s fourth place finalist, Anthony Fedorov, recently announced that he signed with Airgo Music and is working on his EP. The record’s release will coincide with Anthony’s trip to Japan to take part in their production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. When we hopped on the phone with Anthony to find out more about his EP and Joseph show, he revealed the impact his brother has had on his music and how playing Joseph has been liberating.

Anthony’s been very busy performing in musicals and at benefits in his six years since appearing on American Idol, and now he is looking forward to releasing his record. “I’m really grateful and excited for my fans. They’ve been so gracious and stayed with me over the long six year wait, and I finally came across this great opportunity. I’ve known Airgo’s Jimmy Greco for about four years. We always talked about working together and once my other commitment ran out, I came to Jimmy.”

The EP, called Never Over, is close to Anthony’s heart. “Never Over is the name of the EP, which is named after the song I wrote for my brother when he was still alive. He passed away from Ewing’s sarcoma. I wrote it for him so he would keep on fighting and he would listen to the song often during his battle. I wanted to name the EP in his honor.” In fact, the image on the <a … read more

First-Ever Vegas Week

Posted: 19 Feb 2011 04:48 PM PST

For the first time in American Idol history, the contestants who survived Hollywood Week are off to Las Vegas, Nevada. The final sixty contestants got a rare opportunity in Vegas-they got to perform on the set of Cirque du Soleil’s “The Beatles LOVE.”

At the end of the last episode of American Idol, we saw scenes for Vegas Week, with the contestants rising up on stage amidst smoke. The set looks gorgeous, and it appears that contestants will be singing in duos or trios. Here is what Ryan Seacrest shared during the episode preview, “With such a deep talent pool, the judges need to up the ante, and a new challenge is born. Next week, the contestants face their toughest and most demanding stage yet as our remaining competitors take on The Beatles. They only have 24 hours to learn their songs with one chance to make it count. More dynamite performances as the contestants soar to new heights, but cuts will be made, as next week we get down to your Top 24.”

On a press call this week, Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe said, “On the Vegas show, you will see production that you haven’t previously seen before.”

While you wait for Wednesday’s Vegas show (8/7c on FOX), scope out the remaining talent.

Happy Birthday, Chris Richardson!

Posted: 19 Feb 2011 04:48 PM PST

Season 6 finalist Chris Richardson celebrates his 27th birthday today. While Chris was a contestant on American Idol, he soared through the semifinals and into the finals. He did a good job of picking songs that suited his modern pop-rock vocals. It wasn’t until American Idol’s seventh season when contestants could start playing musical instruments, so Chris was unable to showcase his talent on the piano, guitar, and drums during his season. Chris spent the summer after Season 6 touring around the country with his fellow Top 10 finalists.

In early 2008, Chris released a single called “All Alone” that became available for download. During the Season 6 competition, he became close friends with runner-up Blake Lewis, and he even co-wrote a couple tracks, “What’cha Got 2 Lose?” and “Human,” on Blake’s debut album, Audio Day Dream. He also co-wrote a track on Season 8 finalist Anoop Desai‘s debut, All Is Fair. These days, Chris has been playing gigs in and around his hometown and is working on his music.

Happy Birthday, Chris!

Justin Joins the Cast of ‘American Idiot’

Posted: 17 Feb 2011 12:48 AM PST

The producers of the critically acclaimed American Idiot announced that Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini will play the role of “Will” in the Tony Award-winning musical.

“Justin blew us away in his audition and I am thrilled to have him join the company of American Idiot,” says director and co-book writer Michael Mayer.

Justin made his Broadway debut in 2010 as Carlos in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown at the Lincoln Center Theater. He also has theater experience in Once on This Island and The Little Prince.

Called “the first great musical of the 21st century” by The Toronto Star, American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for meaning in a post 9-11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey.

Based on Green Day’s groundbreaking rock opera American Idiot, Billie Joe Armstrong and the band collaborate with one of the theatre’s most acclaimed creative teams, led by the Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award-winning composer and orchestrator Tom Kitt, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett, to bring this explosive, iconic album to the stage.

Reprise Records released The Original Broadway Cast Recording of American Idiot on April 20, 2010, the same day as the show opened. Over the weekend, they took home the GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Show Album. <… read more

Catching Up with Casey James

Posted: 11 Feb 2011 04:43 PM PST

Two weeks ago, Season 9′s second runner-up, Casey James, announced that he will be the opening act for super-duo Sugarland’s 2011 The Incredible Machine Tour. We hopped on the phone with Casey to find out more about the tour, his upcoming album, his adorable dogs, and more.

Many of Casey’s Crew wondered if Casey will be performing all new material on the tour. He said, “I’m performing a few covers because people will like to hear something they know, but there will definitely be a lot of new stuff. It will be mostly new music and I’m really excited about it.”

Now residing in Nashville, Casey and the Casey James Band have been laying down tracks for their debut album. “It’s been great,” Casey stated. “We practice every night and we’re working on the music and getting it ready. We have so many things going on all at once. We’re writing, touring, and creating an album. It’s interesting to have it all happening at once, but it’s great.”

Casey performed songs from many different genres on Season 9, and Idol Community member Evilizabeth wondered if his album will be considered country, rock, or blues. Casey said, “Yes, it will be all of that. I think I did a really good job of representing myself-my musical spirit-and voice on the show. If you think I’m bluesy, you’re right. If you think I’m country, you’re right. If you think I’m rock, you’re right. I guess my sound is kind of a … read more
