The transition from November to December marks a popular time for popular Idol alumni to release albums. See what went on this week in Idol history.

On November 30, 2004, Kelly Clarkson released her sophomore album, Breakaway. The wildly successful album received two Grammy Awards in 2006 for “Best Pop Vocal Album” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” for the single “Since U Been Gone.” The album has been certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, and it remains Kelly’s best-selling album with hits like “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because of You,” and “Walk Away.”

On December 1st of 2007, Carrie Underwood‘s song “So Small” reached #1 on the Billboard Country singles chart. The song became the first single off Carrie’s popular second album, Carnival Ride. It’s also the first single for which Carrie received a writing credit, and she won the “Triple-Play Songwriter” CMA for the track (along with “All-American Girl” and “Last Name”) and BMI’s “Songwriter of the Year” award. Season 8′s Matt Giraud covered the song during Grand Ole Opry week. On the same date in 2009, Season 8′s top girl, Allison Iraheta, released her debut album, Just Like You, at only 17 years old. Reining Idol Lee DeWyze has his first Top 40 placement on the Hot AC chart, as “Sweet Serendipity” reaches #37.The single is off Lee’s post-Idol debut album, Live It Up, which was released on November 16.

American Idol Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood‘s “Mama’s Song” made it to the Top 10 on USA TODAY’s Country singles chart. Sales of “Mama’s Song” climbed up 70% last week. Carrie took home her sixth American Music Award last week for “Favorite Album” in the Country Music category for Play On, her third album which contains the moving track “Mama’s Song.”

Season 7′s Jason Castro‘s “You Are” gives him his first Top 20 Christian AC hit. The song is off Jason’s new album, Who I Am, which was released on November 9th.
