Andrew and Katie Talk About Their Idol Experiences

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:20 PM PDT

Soon after Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia were eliminated in eighth and ninth place, we caught up with them to find out about their Idol journey and the future ahead.

Katie Stevens was very enthusiastic on the phone, despite running off little sleep and having been voted off. Thats understandable because she has a lot to be proud of! When Katie entered the competition, she said she was doing this for her grandmother who has Alzheimers. I was doing this for my grandmother, but I was also doing this for everybody else back home, Katie said, because I wanted to make everyone proud and show that Connecticut can do something great. Ive accomplished my goal, which was to have her be proud of me and to be able to see me do this. I reached my goal and Im happy.

Will the high school student be able to attend he prom and graduation now that shes been eliminated? I actually dont think I will be able to attend prom or graduation because thats when tour rehearsals will start. But definitely, Im going to go back home, hangout with my friends, and keep up with school so that I can graduate and get my diploma. But Im really looking forward to the tour and, hopefully after that, writing an album. Well see how it goes. Im excited for whats to come. Katie put an end to the Simon vs. <a href="http://www.americanidol…. read more

Monday morning ‘Idol’ wrap: Crystal Bowersox ‘wants it’; Siobhan Magnus gets inked

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:20 PM PDT

Now that you've had a weekend to catch up on your sleep after last week's "Idol" excitement (the emotional upheaval of "Idol Gives Back!"! Tim's expected-for-so-long-it-was-unexpected ouster!), let's get you all caught up on the latest "American Idol" news:

Crystl Bowersox means business: A "close friend" of Crystal Bowersox says the dreadlocked "Idol" hopeful is absolutely committed to sticking with the competition to the very end, despite those rumors that she had wanted to quit. "Don't worry about Crystal, she wants to win 'American Idol.' She totally wants it. She is pumped!" the pal told Radar Online. That's not to say that Bowersox, the mother of a young son, hasn't had her moments of frustration. "She has problems with the process at times and with the fact that she cannot spend as much time with her son Tony as she would like because of all her commitments right now," the friend said. "It's like losing weight. Nobody likes the process but it is the end results that matter and Crystal wants a better future for her family and son. That's why she entered 'American Idol.' … Her fans need not worry. Crystal is doing great and very determined too." In other Bowersox news, the New York Times is comparing her to Melissa Etheridge, or vice versa.

Is Aaron Kelly really the worst? As Idol Tracker noted last week, now that Tim Urban is gone, Siobhan Magnus is the new pick on the website Vote for the Worst, which rallies votes for the "American Idol" hopeful it deems the most "entertainingly bad," just to keep things interesting. "Between the crazy outfits, hilarious screaming, and totally Worster personality, how can we not pick her?" asks the site. But Entertainment Weekly thinks a better pick would be Aaron Kelly. "Really, I just think this whole Siobhan-Vote For the Worst thing is a plot led by butterflies seeking more airtime," quips EW's Kate Ward.

Wave of "Idol" birthdays: Danny Gokey turned 30 on Saturday, April 24; he told People magazine he's been busy touring to promote his new album and is "enjoying life again," though he hasn't yet reentered the world of dating. Kelly Clarkson also had a birthday on Saturday; she turned 28. And Allison Iraheta is psyched to turn 18 on Tuesday, April 27.

Brand new tattoos: And speaking of information you can glean from Twitter (and Facebook), Siobhan Magnus and Lee DeWyze have revealed that they, and Big Mike, got new tattoos on Friday night, or as Siobhan put it, "some fresh ink." Here's betting Ryan Seacrest will ask them to show off the new tats, but in the meantime, we're taking your best guesses for what Siobhan, Lee and Mike may have had inked into their skin. What do you think? A butterfly for Siobhan? Did Mike have his baby's name etched in? And what about Lee — a guitar or Andrew Garcia's glasses? Maybe they all got the "American Idol" logo? Weigh in!

Michael Johns sees Lee and Crystal in a David vs. David final showdown

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:20 PM PDT

Pg172004 Last Wednesday night, most of the Top 12 attended an "Idol Gives Back" after-party at the Mondrian Hotel's Sky Bar (our invite must've gotten lost in the mail) that, according to former finalist Michael Johns, who was in attendance along with Season 5's Elliott Yamin, was "a lot of fun."

"We're all such alumni," he tells Idol Tracker of the instant bond he felt with Season 9's finalists. "It's really strange when you go through that process. It's five years of work in 10 weeks. But they're really great people."

The Season 7 heartthrob says his personal standouts are Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Casey James, but that it will probably come down to the first two in the finale. "Casey doesn't need to be in the Top 2 to have a career," he says. "Casey's set."

As for a Crystal and Lee showdown, "it would be awesome," he adds. "It would be like David [Cook] and David [Archuleta] or Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee, where you don't know which way it will go."

He adds that it took a while for this season to "get its stripes." "I didn't like it at first," he says. "It wasn't until the Top 8 when you could really see their confidence come through."

If Michael Johns sees one major difference between his season and the current crop, it's experience. "Our season was great because everybody had played in bars and made records," he says. "This season is more about people with no experience who've become great singers. Lee, Crystal and Casey are all amazing with viable careers ahead of them."

Michael will be back as our guest blogger in a couple of weeks, but what do you think about his take so far?

Cape Cod goes Siobhan crazy — literally

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:19 PM PDT

By looking at Jack MacDonald of Bourne, Mass., one wouldn't think, here's the kind of guy who'd display a life-size cardboard cutout of Siobhan Magnus, complete with faux judges' table and microphone stand, on his front lawn. But somewhat disturbingly, that's exactly what this Cape Codder did as his "small part" to get the community to rally behind its local wonder as she pursues her "American Idol" dream.

And he's not ruling out an expansion. Should she progress, Siobhan's shrine, which lights up at night, could grow to include the Hollywood Hills and various celebrity cameos.

Jack's Siobhan worship may seem a little nutty, but he's certainly not alone. Ever since she first flexed her vocal power ranger might on Season 9, residents of the Cape have gone above and beyond to show their support for the first-ever Massachusetts resident to make it to the Top 10, and much of it has been captured — quite hilariously — by Capecast, the video arm of the Cape Cod Times.

Check out their exploratory reports from the Marstons Mills elementary school, an appliance shop in Hyannis, Siobhan's house and beyond, below. And let us know, have you showed your support for an "Idol" contestant in a creative way?
