A Gift From Malla

Posted: 07 Jul 2019 04:20 PM PDT

Malla was my mother who died of cancer in 1991 at the age of 71. She never remembered my birthday and was an avid follower of Elvis.

On the morning of her funeral I was angered – asking why she never remembered me on that special day.

As I began to shave, that’s when I noticed it: I had Malla’s nose! What a special gift – and then I realized it is not always about money! I love you Malla!

Data Book 2013

Posted: 07 Jul 2019 04:11 AM PDT

We began publication of the Data Book: The State of Children in Memphis and Shelby County in 2006 to inspire action by encouraging data-driven decisions, illuminating the challenges and opportunities facing our community, and shaping a community-wide conversation about the importance of giving every child a fair start in life.
We are encouraged by the progress that has been made in the ensuing seven years. Early childhood development is now at the top of our civic agenda, but proposed cuts to programs benefiting children (Pre-K, for instance) remind us that there is much more to do. We want the Data Book to arm parents, caregivers, educators, community leaders, elected officials, and others with the facts that can strengthen their programs and advocacy efforts.

The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents

Posted: 07 Jul 2019 01:08 AM PDT

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success was a phenomenally successful book–more than 1,600,000 copies were sold–and as copies were passed between friends and loved ones, it touched millions more lives. Its author, Deepak Chopra, received thousands of letters from readers, many of whom expressed the desire to convey those same principles to their children, along with questions about how to do so.

This book, The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents, is Dr. Chopra’s answer to those letters and to parents around the world who wish to raise children with values that satisfy spiritual needs as well as create the experience of abundance. After a general discussion of parenting and the gift of spirit, this book explores specific ways to practice the Seven Spiritual Laws as a family, how to convey these laws to children depending on their ages, and how to embody them in age-specific activities each day, beginning on Sundays with the Law of Pure Potentiality.

The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents moves us beyond private triumphs and failures to experience the spiritual nature of communion with family, to share with those closest to us the infinite riches of innocence and love.

1-2-3 Magic for Christian Parents

Posted: 06 Jul 2019 08:35 PM PDT

Based on the bestselling parenting book 1-2-3 Magic and adapted for a Christian lifestyle!

"1-2-3 Magic made parenting fun again."

"I highly recommend this book to any parent who is spending more time yelling at or nagging their children than smiling at and laughing with them."

"All I have to say is that the ideas in this book really WORK! It really is like magic!"

"It's such a relief to not feel like I'm constantly yelling at someone! If you want to see a fast improvement in your child's behavior, check out 1-2-3 Magic."

Complete with relevant Bible verses, explanations, and exercises, this guide builds on the enormously popular 1-2-3 Magic discipline system by addressing the concerns of a Christian parent. Dr. Thomas W. Phelan and pastor Chris Webb teach parents to take charge while refraining from any physical discipline or yelling, leading to better behaved children, happier parents, and a more peaceful home environment.

1-2-3 Magic allows you to get back in charge of your home and enjoy your kids again by helping you set limits for your children, and by breaking down the complex task of parenting into three straightforward steps:

1. Controlling Obnoxious Behavior: Learn an amazingly simple technique to get the kids to STOP doing what you don't want them to do (whining, arguing, tantrums, sibling rivalry, etc.)
2. Encouraging Good Behavior: Learn several effective methods to get your kids to START doing what you want them to do (picking up, eating, going to bed–and staying there!, chores, etc.)
3. Strengthening Your Relationships: Learn powerful techniques that reinforce the bond between you and your children.

You'll find tools to use in virtually every situation, including advice for common problems such as:

• Whining
• Sibling rivalry
• Reluctance to do chores
• Refusing to go to bed or getting up in the middle of the night
• Talking back
• Stubbornness

For years, millions of parents from all over the world have used the award-winning 1-2-3 Magic program to help them raise happier, healthier families and put the fun back into parenting.
