Christi Lukasiak: A Look Back on Season One: Dance Mom Christi

Posted: 10 Jan 2012 03:30 PM PST

When I was initially approached about Dance Moms, I struggled with the decision whether or not to do the show. The competitive dance world requires a huge commitment, from both the dancer and the mom, if you want to be successful. So I wasn’t sure what kind of pressure a TV show would add to that. But ultimately I thought, Who gets this kind of a chance? and decided I was going to jump in with both feet. It turns out it really was — and is — the experience of a lifetime.

At first I had a really hard time not knowing the direction or tone of the show and how Chloe and I would come across to an audience. I’m a control freak and I was giving the ultimate control to others. (Also, I quickly learned that filming a reality show is hard work and requires very long hours.) The cameras made everyone completely self-conscious, both us moms and the girls. Having a crew around you definitely brings out the intensity of situations.

I was also criticized about everything… from making the decision to do the show, to my parenting skills, to the kind of jelly I use on my sandwiches. At first, I read everything that was written and was really upset about what people were saying. But I had to remind myself of who I really am and be comfortable in my own skin. I just stay away from the Internet now. And while I watched each episode when they first aired, I haven’t re-watched any except for the finale with Chloe’s music video. That, the Black Swan duet, and Chloe’s “Dream on a Star” solo were definitely my most memorable season one moments.

I don’t think my relationship with Chloe is any different since the show. We have always been close and had a very open relationship. I still spend 10 minutes alone with her every night talking about her day. I think we are exactly the same. As far as my relationship with Abby? It was/is still strained. At best.

If there’s one thing I would go back and change about last season it would have to be my jokes about drinking. It’s just what I do, I’m very sarcastic. My joking, coupled with a few scenes of me and Kelly having a glass of wine, really created an uproar that I was a huge drinker. Not the case. I don’t even have a bottle of wine in my home. But I do enjoy having a cocktail with friends, I’m a grown up. But I would definitely change that perception if I could. The most valuable lesson I took away from season one is that people either love you or hate you and you can’t please everyone. So I think I am more honest this season. Can you imagine?

I’m anxiously awaiting Tuesday night — Chloe, Clara, my husband, Marc, and I will most likely keep it low key and watch the season premiere home. I hold my breath the entire hour, so I like to be in the comfort of my sofa. As for what you can expect in season two? I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I do think this season blows season one out of the water. It’s bigger, badder and better. The dancing is better, Abby is badder and the moms are…wait, I don’t want to say we are bigger. Our personalities are bigger. How’s that?

Don’t forget to tune in to season 2 of Dance Moms Tuesdays at 9 pm et/8c on Lifetime. See photos from season 2 now.

‘Goodfellas’ TV Series Coming To AMC?

Posted: 10 Jan 2012 03:30 PM PST

After a string of critically acclaimed TV successes. “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead,” AMC is looking to add another hit to their lineup — “Goodfellas,” the TV series. Tony Soprano, who?

In 2010, it was reported that Martin Scorsese would join the project, along with the film’s original producer Irwin Winkler and writer Nicholas Pileggi, who would write the television script. Pileggi wrote both the script for 1990′s “Goodfellas” as well as the novel, Wiseguys. The idea was pitched to HBO, home of “The Sopranos,” years ago and the series would follow Henry Hill’s time in the witness protection program.

Now, Deadline is exclusively reporting that AMC has officially backed the series, putting the project into development. No word yet on the premise of the show.

“Goodfellas” wouldn’t be the only successful film to get a TV reboot. The 1970 cinematic hit “M*A*S*H” spawned one of the most critically acclaimed television series in history, “M*A*S*H,” which aired from 1972 to 1983. In more recent years, the 2004 sports drama, “Friday Night Lights” got the television remake treatment, leading to another critically successful, although ratings-challenged, series of the same name, “Friday Night Lights.” Most recently, the 2003 legal thriller “The Firm,” starring Tom Cruise, got a TV adaptation nearly 10 years later. Josh Lucas is starring in NBC’s “The Firm,” which recently premiered to dismal ratings.

Freshly inked with a Jesus portrait on his calf, the Biebs says he hopes to maintain his clean image. “I’m not going to try to conform to what people want me to be or go out there and start partying… have people see me with alcohol. I want to do it at my own pace.”

Bieber, who turns 18 on March 1, said. “I don’t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing. I’m into love, and maybe I’ll get more into making love when I’m older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody.”

Justin Bieber: Up Close and Personal

The singer, inspired by Michael Jackson’s lifelong career, wants to “be successful and be great at what I do. I want to be better than anybody who’s ever done it. And in order to do that, I need to strive to be the best, be good to people and treat people with respect, and work as hard as I can. Because for me, I work so hard and this consumes my life — it’s not worth it if I’m not the best.”

Scarlett Johansson, Cosmopolitan

“I’m attracted to the quality of being adventurous and perhaps a bit mischievous and also questioning authority and being proactive. If that makes up a quintessential bad boy, then whatever. I’m not at all attracted to meanness or bullying, but I do think conviction is attractive. I mean, really, who doesn’t?”

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Architectural Digest

Talk show giant Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi cover Architectural Digest sharing the inside of their incredible Beverly Hills home. The property sits on a three-acre lot with a luxurious pool and amazing views of L.A., but DeGeneres remembers she wasn’t always so fortunate. “We never had a house when I was growing up. We always rented. But my father would dream, and we used to look at houses all the time. I’d pick out which bedroom would be mine and get all excited.”The couple just put their home on the market for $49 million.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Parade Magazine

The actress revealed, “There is. I know what the story is. It’s a small story, but I think it should be told. The question is: what’s the right time to tell it?”On fraternal twins Loretta and Tabitha, Parker said, “They’re talking, they’re running, they need me. Loretta is deeply inquisitive; “‘Do you see that, do you hear that, Mama?’ She constantly checks that we are connecting with her.” Her sister is the family princess; “Tabitha does not give; she receives.”Parker believes that James Wilkie is most like her. “He has neuroses that I can see are mine. This need to strive for perfection — I have some control over that because I’m a grown-up and have perspective, but he’s still really frustrated when he can’t do something spot-on. But James Wilkie is a lot more bold than I was. I was not outgoing.”Read more of Parade’s interview with Parker! [http://www.parade.com/celebrity/2011/08/sarah-jessica-parker.html]

Wilde talked about everything from co-star Daniel Craig (“Daniel Craig is the sh*t and he doesn’t even know it”), her text message peeves (“Three Xs and a smiley face…. Emoticon? Gwyneth Paltrow, Elle

“Sometimes it’s hard being with someone for a long time. We go through periods that aren’t all rosy. I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen. If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children. Like, I made such a good choice. He’s such a good dad. You can never be relaxed or smug and think, I’ve got this thing. That’s also part of it — keeping yourself on your toes. I’m not going to take this for granted.”

Kim Kardashian, Cosmopolitan

“Sometimes I feel like a zoo animal,” admits Kardashian. “I’ll be at a restaurant, and someone will put their phone in front of my face and take a picture without saying hi.”

Katy Perry, Rolling Stone

“I started praying for breasts when I was, like, 11,” she laughed. “And God answered that prayer above and beyond, by, like, 100 times, until I was like, ‘Please, stop, God. I can’t see my feet anymore. Please stop!’ I was a lot more rectangular then. I didn’t understand my body. Someone in sixth grade called me ‘Over-the-shoulder boulder holder.’ I didn’t know I could use them. So, what I did was, I started taping them down. How long did I tape them down for? Probably until I was about 19. And, no, I don’t have any psychological pain because of it.”Watch the behind-the-scenes coverage of her photo shoot and read more of the interview at RollingStone.com. Most people don’t know this, but she’s very edgy… that has been a big part of our friendship, knowing that she will throw down at any time as well as that sisterly, cozy, nurturing love that we have.”Diaz will next be seen in the dark comedy, “Bad Teacher,” opening June 24, co-starring Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel.

Kyle Richards on Sister Kim, Regrets, and Her New Dream House

Posted: 10 Jan 2012 03:30 PM PST

“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Kyle Richards stopped by The Grove to chat with “Extra” host Mario Lopez about her hit reality TV show, her sister Kim’s rehab stint, and her new book!

Lopez said he thinks of Kyle as the quarterback of all the drama on “Real Housewives,” now in its second season. Kyle explained, “If I’m thinking, feeling something, have to get it off my chest… doesn’t always go over well.”

Any regrets? “Oh, of course. You know, last season the fight with my sister Kim, I regret that,” said the reality TV star. “But I don’t regret it as much as I regretted this season’s game night. I regretted that a lot more because that just wasn’t me. I wasn’t true to myself.”

Kyle said her sister Kim is doing “really well” after completing rehab. “She’s really strong right now, happy, she’s looking forward to moving on in her life.”

And the “RH” star is excited about her new memoir, “Life is Not a Reality Show.” She detailed, “What you see on the show you can only show so much. Here, I have a lot of family stories growing up, lot of personal photos. Just a deeper me.”

Richards also recently gave Life & Style magazine a tour of her newly renovated seven-bedroom, eight-bath estate. It’s fully equipped with a screening room featuring personalized chairs, five fireplaces and 16 chandeliers — one in every room!
