‘Mad Men’ Star Elisabeth Moss’ New Role Sparks Controversy in Australia Posted: 07 Nov 2011 03:54 AM PST Filed under: Reality-Free, TV News The news that ‘Mad Men’ star Elisabeth Moss has signed on to star in upcoming new drama ‘Top of the Lake’ has led Australia’s national broadcaster, the ABC network, to pull out of the project. It had reportedly pledged around $600,000 to the miniseries on the assumption that the lead character, an Australian police officer, would be played by an Australian actress. An ABC spokesman told the ‘Herald Sun’: “We went into this with the understanding the lead actor would be an Australian. But when that could not happen, we removed ourselves from the deal.” The spokesman added, “We love Elisabeth Moss, but she’s not an Australian. We have a fine calibre of Australian actors available and we would have preferred to see one of them in the role.” Filming is due to start on ‘Top of the Lake’ in New Zealand in February. The six-hour mini series, which is a BBC Worldwide and Sundance Channel coproduction, reunites actress Holly Hunter and director Jane Campion, both of whom won Oscars for their work on ‘The Piano.’

Someone Tries to Kill Nucky on ‘Boardwalk Empire’ (VIDEO) Posted: 07 Nov 2011 03:07 AM PST Filed under: Reality-Free, TV Replay It seems as though Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) has more friends than enemies lately on ‘Boardwalk Empire’ (Sun., 9PM ET on HBO). Even in a crowded room, in front of hundreds of witnesses, people are still trying to kill him. After a cryptic confrontation with Jimmy, in which he told Nucky, “It doesn’t make a difference if you’re right or wrong, just make a decision,” Buscemi’s character was attacked by an unknown shooter who caught him with a bullet in the hand before he was taken out by a federal agent. We’re all for keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, but in this case, perhaps Nucky would be better keeping some distance from everyone for a while.

A Monster Protects a Grimm on ‘Grimm’ (VIDEO) Posted: 07 Nov 2011 03:07 AM PST Filed under: Reality-Free, TV Replay Descendants of the Brothers Grimm might be sworn enemies of all manner of supernatural creatures, but occasionally, said creatures can be persuaded to make themselves useful, as Monroe demonstrated on last week’s ‘Grimm’ (Fri., 9PM ET on NBC). While Nick was working a case, he asked his semi-friendly Blutbad pal Monroe to protect his injured aunt in the hospital, and while a little antagonistic posturing did occur, eventually, Monroe figured out that he had bigger fish to fry — and an arm or two to tear off. Who needs a guard dog?
