Record-Breaking Votes and Compilation Album Posted: 01 Apr 2011 11:17 AM PDT Last night, after the Top 11 finalists performed the songs of Sir Elton John, more than 55 million votes were cast, setting a new American Idol voting record for this early in the competition. During the most dramatic results show in Idol history, finalist Casey Abrams was saved from elimination last Thursday by the American Idol judges after he received the fewest of America’s votes. Watch the final moments of the save. With the save no longer an option, two finalists will be sent home during the live results show tonight, Thursday, March 31 at 8/7c on FOX. Also tonight, Season 3 Idol winner Fantasia will perform her latest hit, “Collard Greens & Cornbread,” and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and Academy Award and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx will perform their first-ever musical collaboration on the Idol stage. She was originally placed in Group 1 of the semifinals, which was a talented group that included Julia DeMato, Charles Grigsby, and Kimberly Caldwell among others. Thanks to the wild card round, Trenyce earned a spot in the Season 2 finals and made it all the way to fifth place! Towards the end of 2008, Trenyce joined the national tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’ with her Season 2 pal and champ Ruben Studdard and Season 2 hopeful Frenchie Davis. The Tony-Award winning musical was nominated for a Grammy last year for “Best Musical Show Album,” which Trenyce, Ruben, and Frenchie were a part of. Happy Birthday, Trenyce! On Wednesday’s performance show, the Top 11 performed the songs of Sir Elton John, and Adedapo, 26, from Milwaukee, WI, sang “I’m Still Standing,” and Megia, 16, from Hayward, CA, sang “Daniel.” Tonight’s episode also featured performances by Season Three Idol winner Fantasia and a musical collaboration by will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and Academy Award and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx.
