Kris Allen’s Fans Empower Music

Posted: 18 Jan 2011 04:26 PM PST

Season 8 American Idol winner Kris Allen has some truly amazing fans that started the “Alright with Music” fundraiser (playing off the title of Kris’ upbeat single “Alright With Me“). These fans were inspired by the always charitable Kris and they wanted to bring more focus to one of his passions, music education. With the help of hundreds of fans, the fundraiser was able to collect over $28,000 for the Music Empowers Foundation, surpassing their original goal by over $3,000. Music Empowers is a private foundation that provides funding to nonprofit organizations to offer engaging and innovative music instruction to children communities where music education either does not exist or is underdeveloped. Last year, Kris joined Music Empowers’ founder Andy Davis along with Dr. Phil McGraw to announce a $100,000 grant to the Dr. Phil Foundation.

On his official website, Kris said, “I’ve always said that my fans are the greatest and their generosity and support for ‘Alright with Music’ solidifies my point. Music education is very important to me and I’m glad that my fans share the same passion.”

Andy Davis had the following to say, “Music Empowers Foundation is humbled by the great generosity of Kris Allen’s fans and others who supported this event. I’d like to thank Kris Allen for inspiring his fans to such generosity and for his awesome support of music education for kids.” Andy shared that the funds Kris’ fans raised will be used by Music Empowers Foundation to continue supporting music education programs offered by organizations such as Little Kids Rock, Berklee City Music Network, and Blackbird Academy of Arts.</… read more

This Week in Idol History

Posted: 18 Jan 2011 04:26 PM PST

This was a big week in Idol history for Kelly Clarkson. On January 17, 2008, America’s first Idol and Reba McEntire kicked off their “2 Worlds, 2 Voices Tour.” The two superstars shared a stage and a band and sang together and sang some of each others’ songs. The tour was extended and ended on November 22, 2008.

Two years earlier, on January 18, 2006, Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway became certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It has since received a six times platinum certification (on 5/23/07). The album, which was released on November 30, 2004, received two Grammy Awards and sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

Then, on January 19, 2009, Kelly debuted the single, “My Life Would Suck Without You” on the radio. New York Top 40 station Z100 played it first, and then it went nationwide the next day. In the second week of the song’s release, “My Life Would Suck Without You” went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Kelly wasn’t the only person to make news during this week in history. On January 16, 2007 Bucky Covington released his first single, “A Different World.” The song peaked at #6 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

History will be made when American Idol’s milestone 10th season premieres tomorrow, Wednesday, January 19th at 8/7c on FOX. With a history-making panel of judges and the all-new Wednesday + Thursday schedule, Season 10 is already making it’s mark!

Happy Birthday, Kristy Lee Cook!

Posted: 18 Jan 2011 04:26 PM PST

Season 7′s Kristy Lee Cook celebrates her 27th birthday today. The country gal from Oregon had to sell her horse to pay for her flight to audition for American Idol. Fortunately, she made it all the way to Top 7 and was eliminated during Mariah Carey week.

Soon after the Season 7 finale, Kristy Lee signed with Arista Nashville and 19 Recordings. Three days after she completed the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2008, KLC released her album Why Wait. The album charted at #8 on the US Country Charts and at #49 of all US albums. Her first single off the record, “15 Minutes of Shame,” made it to #28 on the US Hot Country Singles chart. On October 25, 2008, Kristy Lee made her Grand Ole Opry debut. Kristy is now signed with Broken Bow Records. A little over a week ago, Kristy tweeted, “Been busy writing in Nashville, had my early bday party last night!! So much fun and I have the greatest label in the world.”

Towards the end of 2010, Kristy starred in a new reality TV show called Goin’ Country. The show followed Kristy’s attempt at getting another record deal while traveling around the country to hunt. The adventurous singer also hosted the show “Outdoor’s 10 Best.”

Kristy’s love of horses hasn’t changed. In fact, she founded the Kristy Lee Horse Heaven Foundation, which specializes in bringing joy to the lives of horses in need.

Happy Birthday, KLC!
