Happy Birthday, Ace Young!

Season 5 finalist Ace Young celebrates his 30th birthday today! Ace has done a variety of work in entertainment since his time on American Idol. On October 20, 2006, he released his first single “Scattered,” a digital download. In 2008, Ace released his self-titled CD which included the hit “Addicted.” The song charted on the Billboard Pop 100, where it peaked at #77. Ace co-wrote seven of the eleven tracks on the album.

The seventh place finalist received a Grammy Award nomination in 2007 for “Best Rock Song” because of his songwriting credit on Daughtry’s debut album for “It’s Not Over.” Ace and Chris Daughtry met during Season 5 auditions in Denver and were roommates on the show. They instantly became best friends.

Ace and his fans started a fan-based charity project, Highrollers with Heart. The project raised money in Ace’s name for the new Family Hospitality suite at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. In January 2008, Ace was named a Celebrity Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). He assists the charity with events and raising awareness for neuromuscular diseases. Ace performed on the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon August 31 and September 1, 2009 live from Las Vegas. He also co-hosted several segments of the live television broadcast.

Lee’s New Album is Now Available

It’s the moment Lee DeWyze fans have been waiting for…the reigning American Idol’s album, Live It Up, is available now for purchase. You had the opportunity to preview the album all week on Facebook.com/AmericanIdol, and you can still head over there and listen to the streaming tracks.

Soon after the Mount Prospect, Illinois native became the ninth American Idol, he was signed to 19 Recordings/RCA Records. While touring with the Top 10 this summer, Lee simultaneously wrote and record Live It Up. Lee co-wrote an impressive 10 of the 11 tracks on the album, including his first single, “Sweet Serendipity,” which debuted on October 13th.

This Week in Idol History

The middle of November has always been a popular time for American Idol winners to release their debut albums. This week in Idol history, Carrie Underwood, David Cook, Kris Allen, and Jordin Sparks released their post-Idol albums, and Lee DeWyze joins this talented group now with his release of Live It Up.

On November 15, 2005, Carrie Underwood released her debut album, Some Hearts. The album has been certified platinum an amazing seven times by the RIAA. It was not only the number one selling album of the year, it also became the best selling debut album by a solo female country music artist in history and the best selling album by an American Idol alumnus. Some Hearts won every award it was nominated for at the ACMs, Billboard Music Awards, and the AMAs.

November 16th has always been a big day for Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken. The day marked his first American Music Award win in 2003. Then on the same day in 2004, Clay released his holiday album, Merry Christmas With Love, which set the record as the fastest-selling holiday CD.
