Nominees Announced for Inaugural American Country Awards

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 07:27 AM PDT

The first-ever American Country Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Monday, Dec. 6 at 8/7c on FOX. The two-hour primetime special will be the first and only country music awards show where fans determine all the winners by voting for their favorite nominees in music, touring and video categories.

American Idol’s fourth winner, Carrie Underwood, earned six nods. Season 5′s Kellie Pickler is nominated in two categories, and Season 8 finalist and new country crooner Danny Gokey earned a nomination for Breakthrough Artist.

Starting today, fans can vote once each day for their favorite American Country Awards nominees at www.theacas.com. Voting is open until November 8, 2010, for all categories, except for Artist of the Year, which closes on December 4. The nominees for each award category have been determined by one of the four respected media measurement companies Big Champagne, Great American Country, Mediabase and Pollstar.

“Unlike any other country music award show, the American Country Awards will give fans the power to choose all of the winners, which means the awards will reflect what America is listening to and watching right now,” said executive producer Bob Bain. “The ACAs will recognize traditional categories like Artist of the Year and Album of the Year but will also introduce a new honor for tours, resulting in one amazing night for country music.”

Happy Birthday, Andrew Garcia!

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 07:27 AM PDT

Season 9′s ninth place finalist, Andrew Garcia, celebrates his 25th birthday today. It was less than a year ago that Andrew wowed American Idol viewers during auditions with hits like Maroon 5′s “Sunday Morning” and former Idol judge Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up.” He made it all the way until the Top 9 Elvis Presley week, when he was eliminated with his fellow contestant and good friend Katie Stevens. Andrew was best friends with winner Lee DeWyze on the show, and he got to spend all summer touring the nation with his fellow Top 10 finalists. While on tour, Andrew performed the first two songs we ever heard him sing on American Idol – “Straight Up” and “Sunday Morning.”

The dad from Moreno Valley, CA spent his 25th birthday traveling back from Las Vegas, NV.

Happy Birthday, Andrew!

We caught up with Andrew Garcia and the Season 9 finalists at his hometown concert this summer. Watch the exclusive interviews.

Happy Birthday, Josh Gracin!

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 07:27 AM PDT

Season 2 finalist Josh Gracin celebrates a big birthday today-he turns 30! The Marine was just 22 when he was a finalist on American Idol. Josh stayed true to his country music roots whenever possible on American Idol, singing songs by Garth Brooks and Lonestar. After his time on the show, Josh had a record deal and released his self-titled debut album in 2004, which received a Gold certification. The album went to #2 on the Billboard Country chart, and three popular singles-including the number one US Country chats hit “Nothin’ To Lose”-came from the album.

In 2008, Josh released his sophomore album, We Weren’t Crazy. The husband and father of four is currently working on his third album and the first single off the album, “Cover Girl,” was released in August.

You can catch Josh performing this Saturday at Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood, NJ, and next Saturday at Talladega Super Speedway in Taladega, AL.

Happy Birthday, Josh!

This Week in Idol History

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 07:27 AM PDT

It’s a big week of anniversaries for Carrie Underwood. The eighteenth marks the day that Idol’s fourth winner released her first post-Idol single, “Jesus, Take The Wheel.” The single was later certified Platinum by the RIAA. October 23 is the three year anniversary of the release of Carrie’s Triple Platinum sophomore album, Carnival Ride, which delivered hit singles like “So Small,” “Last Name,” and “I Told You So.” Two other reasons why Carrie is on the calendar this week: on 10/21/08 she re-released Carnival Ride and included five bonus Christmas tracks, and the next day her replica wax figure was displayed at Madame Tussauds in Time Square.

Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken sang the National Anthem at the opening game of the World Series in NYC on October 18, 2003, shortly after he finished touring the country with the American Idols LIVE! Tour.

Season 5′s Ayla Brown released her debut album, Forward, October 17 of 2006, and Season 5 finalist Ace Young releases his first single, “Scattered,” just three days later.

On October 19, 2009, Daughtry kicked off their “Leave This Town Tour,” which has taken them around the world. The band just returned from the European leg of the tour.
