American Idol and Carrie Underwood Win People’s Choice Awards Posted: 08 Jan 2010 05:38 PM PST Last night, the 36th Peoples Choice Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, home to the last two Idol finales. Fans had the opportunity to vote over the past few months, and the results were announced live on TV. Peoples Choice recently cited that a record breaking 60 million online votes determined the winners. American Idol won the award for Favorite Competition Show. This is the fourth PCA win for Idol, who also brought home the crystal trophy in 2007, 2006, and 2005. Also no stranger to the Peoples Choice Awards is this years winner for Favorite Country Artist, the Season 4 American Idol, Carrie Underwood. This honor makes Carrie an impressive six-time Peoples Choice winner! She was so excited to receive her award that she stumbled on the way up to the stage and joked about it in her acceptance speech. At the end of her speech, Carrie encouraged her fans to come see her on tour. Now with 11 #1 singles and more than 11 million in album sales to her credit, including her recently released third album, Play On, Underwood has become a consistent fan-favorite who is also the reigning fan-voted Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year. Randy Jackson: ‘Where my ladies at?!’ Posted: 08 Jan 2010 05:38 PM PST And don't expect a repeat of the Kris Allen-Adam Lambert showdown either. "You could've thought there would be more theatrical Adam Lambert-Kris Allen types that showed up, but that's not what happened at all this time," he said. "Usually with [whoever] comes in one and two… it's almost a signal to everyone at home to think different." As for other changes on the show, Jackson promises that, with the addition of Ellen Degeneres, there should be "a lot of laughs" on the panel this year. "She's funny, she's charismatic, she's really cool… she's my homegirl from Louisiana like me!" Guest judges for the audition portions, Jackson revealed, include Joe Jonas, Shania Twain, Victoria Beckham, Neil Patrick Harris, and Mary J. Blige, along with Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry who bring an element much needed to the auditioning process: a younger perspective. Still, the "Idol" criteria remains the same: "Undeniable talent, something that makes you unique and star persona," said Jackson. As for rumors of Simon Cowell's potential exit, Jackson acknowledged that all the speculation does distract from the show's purpose, finding music's next great star, but added that, until he hears it from Mr. Mean himself, he's not buying it — nor is he thinking about his own contractual end. "['Idol'] can go on quite a long time," he said. "It's the best music reality show ever." – Shirley Halperin Photo: Randy Jackson; Credit: Michael Becker, Fox Follow me on Twitter @shirleyhalperin |
Adam Lambert scheduled for an ‘Oprah’ encore Posted: 08 Jan 2010 05:38 PM PST Thanks to an audience casting call that was buried deep on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" website (the New York Post reported it Wednesday), it appears that Adam Lambert will have a proper sit-down with the queen of talk next week, Idol Tracker has learned. The air date has yet to be determined, but like his last appearance (via Skype) on the show back in October, the entire episode will not be dedicated entirely to Lambert. It will most likely be a segment, says our source, who added that Lambert would definitely be performing. Reps for Lambert and "Oprah" told Idol Tracker that they could not confirm an appearance at this time. – Shirley Halperin |
