American Idol Chart Achievements

If someone asked you to guess how many Number Ones American Idol contestants have collected on the Billboard charts, what number would you guess? 18? 80? 180? All would be wrong, and all would be under the actual count.

Bear in mind, Billboard compiles around 150 charts every week. There are charts for every format of music, for singles and albums, for sales and airplay. Including every national, domestic chart, the American Idol singers have racked up an astounding 257 No. 1s to date, and the number increases all the time. Kelly Clarkson has earned the most Number Ones, with a total of 54. Carrie Underwood has topped the charts 42 times and Daughtry is close behind with 35 Number Ones.

On those same charts, 45 Idol finalists have appeared so far, with more names being added every season. And Idols regularly have the best-selling single of the year, starting with Kelly Clarksons A Moment Like This in 2002. A majority of the singles that have debuted at No. 1 on Billboards Hot 100 this decade have been by Idols, including Clay Aikens This Is The Night, Fantasias I Believe and Carrie Underwoods Inside Your Heaven. Many other Idol singles have debuted in the top 10, from Ruben Studdards Flying Without Wings to David Cooks The Time Of My Life and David Archuletas Crush.

The sales numbers are impressive, too. American Idols have sold over 46 million albums just in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan, with worldwide figures reaching 66 million. Idols have sold over 56 million download tracks in the U.S. according to SoundScan. First-week sales of digital downloads on many Idol singles have set new records as well. Elliott Yamin’s Upcoming Tour

Season 5s second runner-up, Elliott Yamin, announced that hell be hitting the road again. Come early January, Elliott will continue to promote his current album, Fight For Love, by touring from coast to coast. In October, Elliott embarked on his second USO tour, traveling to Guam and Japan.

Here are the first set of confirmed dates. Elliotts team suggests to keep an eye out for more dates in the future, and we’ll be sure to include them in the AI-Insider’s Weekly Idol Scoop.

Carrie Underwood Announces "Play On Tour"

Season 4s American Idol, Carrie Underwood, released her third album, Play On, November 3. This week, Carrie announced that she will headline a new tour across North America in 2010. The Play On Tour will kick off March 11, 2010 with special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia; the latter sing on the track What Can I Say from Play On.

In regards to touring, Carrie said, I am getting so excited about next year as we are currently working through all the big plans for the tour. I cannot wait to perform new music and see familiar faces across the U.S. and Canada!

Carrie spent this past year writing and recording for her new album and performed a few select concerts. Her previous tour, 2008s highly successful Carnival Ride Tour, wrapped after 137 shows with 1.2 million fans in attendance.

The first leg of the tour is comprised of 45 shows from Reading, Pennsylvania to Spokane, Washington. Here is the schedule:
