Posted: 06 Oct 2009 08:46 PM PDT Allison Iraheta, the rockin red head from Season 8, has released the first single off her debut album. The song is called Friday Ill Be Over U and it is a fresh and catchy track that shows off Allisons personality. Shes been hard at work in the studio putting the finishing touches on the album, due to arrive in stores and online on December 1st via 19 Entertainment and Jive Records. Allison paired up with some of the best writers and producers in the industry including Max Martin (who worked on Kelly Clarksons Since U Been Gone and Behind These Hazel Eyes and many other popular hits), Howard Benson (who has worked with Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry among others), and Kevin Rudolf (singer of Let It Rock). For more information, visit www.AllisonIraheta.com. We interviewed Allison earlier this summer when she was touring around the country with her fellow Idol finalists. She mentioned that the album was “coming along great. I’m really happy.” Read the full interview.

Happy Birthday, Melinda Doolittle! Posted: 06 Oct 2009 08:46 PM PDT As the humble second runner-up on Season 6 of American Idol, Melinda Doolittle won over fans as the back-up singer who broke out of her shell on the Idol stage. Since her time on the show, Melinda has been busy releasing new music and getting involved with charity work. In February of 2009, Melinda released her debut album, Coming Back To You. On this 13 track CD, Melinda shows off her powerful vocals and her love of R&B standards. The album debuted at number 58 on the Billboard 200 chart during its first week of release, selling just over 10,900 copies. Melinda is heavily involved with the Malaria No More charity. In June of 2007, Melinda joined First Lady Laura Bush in Zambia to distribute life-saving bed nets and to raise awareness with the Malaria No More organization. Malaria No More will be one of the charities featured on this Aprils Idol Gives Back show. Melinda also works with The Boys & Girls Club of America and The League, a community-driven organization that empowers children to help out their neighborhood. Many of Melindas concerts raise money for good causes. Tomorrow, Melinda will perform in Brentwood, TN to raise money for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Samoa. On October 24, Melinda will perform at the Hearts & Hands Gala, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, to benefit two Atlanta area Ronald McDonald Houses. Happy Birthday, Melinda! Blake’s Sophomore Album is Now Available Posted: 06 Oct 2009 08:46 PM PDT Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis released his sophomore album, Heartbreak on Vinyl, today. The inspiration behind the album is the fate of record stores in the music industry. Released via Tommy Boy Entertainment, Heartbreak on Vinyl, shows Blakes shift from pop-rock to dance-pop music. His decade in the dance scene inspired the album. Rodney Jerkins (who worked with Britney Spears and Lady Gaga) and Dave Aude (who worked with the Pussycat Dolls) produced the album with Blake. The first single off the album, Sad Song, was released in July, and the music video for the track came out in September and features Season 8 semi-finalist Casey Carlson. You can watch the video, here. Recently, Blake answered MyIdol members questions on video. Watch it here. |
Posted: 06 Oct 2009 08:46 PM PDT American Idol will once again host Idol Gives Back, the Emmy Award-winning television event and musical celebration raising awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities, during the Top 7 Results Show Wednesday, April 21 at 8/7c on FOX. Childrens Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Childrens U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation are confirmed beneficiaries. I am very pleased to announce that we will be doing our third Idol Gives Back on April 21, 2010, said Simon Fuller, Idol creator and CEO of 19 Entertainment. This is our opportunity to reach out and support the people of America and around the world who need our compassion and generosity to improve or even save their lives. America will undoubtedly prove once again what a remarkable and generous nation it is. For American Idol to be able to facilitate this kind of initiative makes me very proud. In todays tough economic times, its more important than ever but more difficult than ever to raise money to help those in need, said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. With this years Idol Gives Back, were focused on raising awareness about thechallenges that so many children and familiescurrently face and demonstrating how even small donations can make a difference and help save lives. Every little bit counts. Theres never been a more important and appropriate time to give what we can to help those less fortunate, said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, executive producer of American Idol. We all have less to give, and we may not raise as much as in previous years, but with the power of the Idol platform and the generosity of our viewers, we hope to extend a much-needed compassionate hand to those … read more |

After hiatus, ‘Idol Gives Back’ returns in 2010 Posted: 06 Oct 2009 08:46 PM PDT The annual "American Idol" special "Idol Gives Back" is returning for a third year. The benefit concert will be back April 21, during the top 7 results show. After two successful editions of "Idol Gives Back," plans for a 2009 special were nixed. Executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz said then that she wanted the charity event "to take a break, personally. … I think that's the right amount of time. I don't think you should go back to the country and ask them to donate every single year. I think it's too much. Every two years to me feels right." Proceeds from the next edition of "Idol Gives Back" will go to Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children and the United Nations Foundation. More than $140 million was raised in the two previous specials. The ninth season of "American Idol" returns in January. – Denise Martin |
