Happy Birthday, Bo Bice!

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 12:36 PM PDT

Season 4′s runner-up, Bo Bice, turns 35 years old today. The husband and father of three sons has made a name for himself since his time on American Idol.

While competing on American Idol, Bo became one of the show’s first rockers and stayed true to his Southern Rock roots with songs by Badlands, The Allman Brothers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. At the end of 2005, Bo released his debut record, The Real Thing, which received a Gold certification by the RIAA. Bo worked with Kara DioGuardi, Richie Sambora, Chad Kroeger, and more on this album. After recording a successful hit single for the movie Blades of Glory, Bo released his sophomore album in October of 2007. A week before the Season 9 finale, Bo released his third album, appropriately titled 3. Season 6′s second runner-up, Melinda Doolittle, performs on the track “Get On and Ride” on 3.

A few weeks ago, Bo made history on the syndicated TV show Don’t Forget The Lyrics, becoming the very first celebrity contestant to win the grand prize by perfectly singing the lyrics to all the songs. He won the grand prize of $20,000, which went to the MusiCares organization.

On December 11th, Bo will be hosting the 2nd Annual Bo Bice “Peeps” Christmas Party at The Rutledge in downtown Nashville. The ticket money will be donated to a local shelter, and attendees are encouraged to bring food, blankets, or toys to donate to a family … read more

Carrie Underwood Co-writes and Records Song for ‘Narnia’

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 12:36 PM PDT

Season 4′s American Idol, Carrie Underwood, has recorded the end title song, “There’s a Place for Us,” for the holiday motion picture event THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER in theaters December 10th.

Carrie agreed to co-write (with David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey) and record the song, produced by her famed, multi-platinum producer Mark Bright, after the filmmakers screened for them a rough cut of the picture.

Carrie commented: “I’m a big fan of the ‘Narnia’ books and films, so I was really excited about seeing this new movie and writing and performing a song for it.I was blown away by the film, and I think people are going to be really excited when they see it. It’s the perfect holiday film.

“THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER presents an imaginative world that’s also relatable because it’s easy to connect the characters and themes to our own lives,” Carrie continues. “The land of Narnia represents a place where the young heroes truly belong. That inspired me to get together with David and Hillary and write ‘There’s a Place for Us,’ which says that for everybody, there’s a place where you’re powerful and where you belong. The movie and song are about finding that place where you fit in.”

“There’s a Place for Us” will receive major broadcast and online debuts this month, and will be available for purchase exclusively at iTunes on November 16th.

International cover versions of Carrie’s song will be recorded overseas in a small number of select countries, broadening the impact of this worldwide release.

Chris Sligh is a Dad

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 12:36 PM PDT

Season 6 finalist Chris Sligh became a father yesterday. He and his wife Sarah were in for a big treat on Halloween morning…the arrival of baby Keira Lennon Sligh.

Chris announced the arrival of Keira today on his website, stating, “Sarah and I are so incredibly happy to finally have our little girl in our arms! Nearly two weeks overdue, but well worth the wait. We chose the name Keira because it was the only girl’s name we could agree on. And Lennon…well, because I’m a Beatle’s fan. Luckily, I managed to negotiate a Beatle into my child’s name. Keira is the most beautiful thing we have ever seen and we are just thrilled that she arrived happy and healthy. Born on October 31 at 6:06am in Nashville, Keira Lennon came into this world weighing 7 lbs., 12 oz. and 21.5 inches long.”

The tenth place finalist recently brought another creation into this world-his CD, The Anatomy of Broken. He is juggling daddy duties with a new tour. Stay tuned to the AI-Insider‘s Weekly Scoop blog to see when Chris will be performing near you.

Congratulations Chris & Sarah, and welcome Keira!

Chris was known for his big personality on Season 6. See for yourself in our exit interview with Chris Sligh.
