Lee DeWyze, “Live It Up”

Its here! Your American Idol, Lee DeWyze, has announced the name and shared the cover of his post-Idol debut album. The album is called Live It Up, and Lees first single off the album shares the same name. The single Live It Up will debut exclusively on On Air with Ryan Seacrest this Wednesday, October 13. Tune in to hear it first!

Live It Up will be available in stores and online on November 16th, but you can preorder the album now.

Americas fifth Idol, Taylor Hicks, celebrates his birthday today! When Taylor auditioned for American Idol, Simon Cowell who shares a birthday with Taylor said that he would never make it to the final round of Season 5. After Taylor’s first live TV performance for the voting public, Simon admitted he was wrong and that Taylor’s personality is what makes him stand out. Taylor sailed through the competition each week and became the oldest contestant to win American Idol, and he was the first male contestant to win without ending up in the bottom two or three.

The Soul Patrol leaders self-titled post-Idol album was certified platinum and introduced Taylors hit single, Do I Make You Proud. In July 2007, Hicks released his autobiography, Heart Full of Soul: An Inspirational Memoir About Finding Your Voice and Finding Your Way. In March of 2009, Taylor released his second album, The Distance, on his own label, Modern Whomp Records. During a Season 8 results show, Taylor returned to the American Idol stage and performed the second single from The Distance, “Seven Mile Breakdown.” In January of this year, Taylor released a live DVD entitled Whomp at the Warfield. Over the past couple of years, Taylor has performed on Broadway and around the country as Teen Angel in Grease.

Happy Birthday, Melinda Doolittle!

Season 6s humble second runner-up, Melinda Doolittle, celebrates her birthday today. The charitable singer has a big birthday wish. She took to her official website and posted a special video, saying, I am not normally a person to ask for gifts for my birthday, but this year Ive come up with the most amazing gift in the entire worldI have been involved with an organization called Malaria No More for the last three yearsits a $10 bed net, thats all it takes–$10, and you are saving lives. Watch Melinda share her birthday wish.

Melinda has been involved with the Idol Gives Back organization Malaria No More since her time as a contestant on American Idol. In June of 2007, Melinda joined First Lady Laura Bush in Zambia to distribute life-saving bed nets and to raise awareness with the Malaria No More. She also works with The Boys & Girls Club of America, The League, Ronald McDonald House charities, and UNICEF. In fact, many of Melinda’s concerts raise money for good causes, and earlier this year she performed to raise money for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Samoa.

In February of 2009, Melinda released her debut album, Coming Back To You, which debuted at number 58 on the Billboard 200 chart during its first week of release.
