Happy Birthday, Chris Daughtry!

Posted: 25 Dec 2009 01:27 AM PST

Season 5 star Chris Daughtry celebrates his 30th birthday the day after Christmas. He may have ended up in fourth place, but he has had a very successful career since his time on American Idol. He formed a band, Daughtry, and they released a self-titled debut album in 2006. The album went on to become the fastest selling debut rock album in Soundscan history. Success on the charts soon followed, with the album peaking at #1 on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top Rock Albums. Last week, Billboard released their Decade End and Year End charts, and Daughtrys name appears all over them. After an AMA win and four Grammy nominations, it was safe to say that fourth place on American Idol wasnt so bad after all.

Daughtry released their second album, Leave This Town, this summer. This sophomore album for the band debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. Daughtry has been touring across the US to promote the album, and theyve been touring with Nickelback. Find out remaining tour dates, here.

Happy 30th Birthday, Chris!

Happy Birthday, Ryan Seacrest!

Posted: 25 Dec 2009 01:27 AM PST

The busiest man in show biz, Ryan Seacrest, celebrates his birthday the day before Christmas. Ryan will be back on January 12th for his ninth season of American Idol. As a TV host, entertainment reporter, radio host, producer, and entrepreneur, Ryan has accomplished so much so quickly. A couple years ago, the Emmy Awards added a category for Reality TV hosts, and Ryan has been nominated for the award each time for his work on American Idol. He also hosted the award show in 2007. Ryan wont be able to relax too much after his birthday. He executive-produces and co-hosts Dick Clarks New Years Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

Whether it be comforting nervous contestants, reading off phone numbers, creating dramatic pauses, or joking around with Simon, Ryan always brings his energy and professionalism to the American Idol stage. This summer, Ryan traveled to seven of the nations biggest cities for American Idol auditions. See Ryan in action in our new Season 9 Auditions: Ryan Seacrest gallery.

Happy Birthday, Ryan!

Seacrests looks have changed over the years (Do you remember the bleached hair and mesh shirts?). Take a stroll down memory lane with these Season 1 photos.

Simon Cowell to leave Idol? Say it ain’t so!

Posted: 23 Dec 2009 05:24 PM PST

RAY_3462

What would American Idol be without its resident snark-meister, Simon Cowell? We may learn sooner rather than later if this report claiming his imminent departure is true. According to the story, which quotes Cowell's older brother Tony, the 50-year-old Cowell, who earns an estimated $36 million per season, is bored with his role as judge and may call Idol quits after 2010 to concentrate on bringing his enormously successful UK show, X Factor, to the United States. (Cowell is also a judge on Britain's Got Talent, the show that made Susan Boyle a household name.) It's been widely rumored that X Factor would also end up at the Fox network so as not to directly compete with Idol. A Fox spokesperson and Cowell's representative had no comment on the report.

The two returning Idol judges are only committed through season nine—Randy Jackson extended his Idol contract by three years in 2006, Kara Dioguardi signed on for another year in August 2009—while newcomer Ellen Degeneres inked a five-year deal in September 2009, which could mean significant changes to the panel if either decides that television should take a backseat to careers in the music industry.

And speaking of the music biz, Cowell may be opting to concentrate on deeper involvement developing his own signed artists. After all, Susan Boyle, BGT's runner-up, is on her fourth straight week at the top of the U.S. album charts. His previous talent discovery, Leona Lewis, also had a successful stint on the American charts with her album, Spirit.

Still, one has to wonder, with America's Got Talent, The Sing-Off and potentially X Factor, how many singing-talent competition shows do American audiences need? And would an Cowell-less Idol be worth watching? What do you think, Idol fans? We want to know!

Happy Birthday, Anoop Desai!

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 09:24 AM PST

Yesterday was Anoop Desais 23rd birthday. The North Carolina native had a successful run on the eighth season of American Idol. When Anoop auditioned for American Idol in 2008, he suggested the nickname Anoop Dawg to Randy Jackson, and the moniker has stuck with him since!

Anoop was selected as one of the 36 semi-finalists, and after performing Angel of Mine on the first night of the live competition, Anoop just barely missed a spot in the finals. The judges called him back for the Wild Card round, during which he sang My Prerogative. His vocals and enthusiasm won over the judges, and they made him first ever thirteenth finalist.

On the show, Anoop stayed true to his R&B roots. Anoop didnt receive enough votes during Disco Week, which made him the contestant in sixth place. Since he placed in the Top 10, Anoop spent the summer touring around the U.S. and Canada on the American Idols LIVE! 2009 tour. We caught up with Anoop while he was on the road this summer. Read our exclusive interview with him, here.

Anoop performed a solo concert on October 22, 2009 at the North Carolina State Fair. He also performed at University of North Carolinas Memorial Hall, a spot where he used to perform as a student at the school. The day after Thanksgiving, Anoop performed at the San Francisco Union Square for the Macys Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, where he sang The Christmas Song, All I Want For … read more
